5.2 Navigation

While the “Report” tool identifies issues with an HTML document, it does not really assess whether a document is easy to navigate for a user who needs accessibility. The “Navigation” tool shows navigation points of a document using the header elements, image maps, links, forms, data tables and etc.

Special attention should paid to headers and links because these two represent the most commonly used methods to navigation within a document and to linked documents. Also, the forms tools helps to highlight form elements in a document. If a form element fails to meet accessibility requirements, it is highlighted in red for easy identification.

If an HTML document has a long list of links, or a very short list of headers, it can be improved even if there is no violation of accessibility rules.
