The NAS (network attached storage) that is used to back up the servers is a secure system itself. It requires full authentication that is based on encrypted transmission. Furthermore, the NAS is not just an appliance, it is a full Linux box. To make it even more secure, there is only one administrator that has access to the NAS. Security experts certify that the NAS is, in fact, unbreakable.
Because the NAS is so unbreakable, and that the only user on the NAS is the administrator, the administrator decides that there is little need to set up file and folder protection. The security experts agree that this is fine. The default file and directory protection is set to 755 (rwxr-xr-x), but there really is no group, and no other user on this system.
