3.1 IPP

The Internet Printer Protocol is a well established protocol to connect to networked printers. IPP uses TCP and UDP at port 631. IPP is particularly important because it is also supported by CUPS, this will be discussed in another section.

IPP is a flexible protocol, it permits a printer offer multiple “services”. This makes it possible for a network printer to act as a PCL3 printer and a Postscript printer via two different services.
