2 Start with power components

When you lay out your board, start with high current traces of power components. It is better to save two vias from a power trace than to use four vias for a small current signal trace.

Design the traces locally, do not worry too much about power and ground distribution. With a 2-layer board, it is very difficult to route power traces and power/ground without conflicts. Worst come to worst, distribute power and ground using jumper wires.
