7 Specifying a default form to open

This is the last step. Click the “Office Button” (the big Office logo at the upper left corner). Then, click “Access Options”. Then, click “Current Database”. In “Display Form”, use the drop down box to select “mainForm”. Click “OK” to get out of the Access Option dialog box.

Close the database, then open it again. You should see the Main Form automatically open. Of course, the default ribbon is still there, which permits an end user to mess up the database in a big way.

To help prevent this kind of problem, you can go to the Access Options dialog box again, and tweak a few more settings. Go back to “Current Database”. This time, specify “Application Title” as “User Management”. You can also disable the status bar by unchecking “Display Status Bar”. While you are at it, also uncheck “Display Navigation Pane”, “Allow Full Menus” and “Allow Default Shortcut Menus”.

Again, close and re-open the database. This time, most of the default Access navigation controls are gone. An end user is less likely to cause damage to important features of a database.
