3 Update the repository cache

Your Linux installation maintains a local cache of the repository catalog. As a result, once you change the repository specification as specified in the previous section, you also need to refresh the local cache. The following command accomplishes this:

aptitude update

Note that you need to have Internet access to do this, as the command reaches out to the repository server to download the catalog.

You can run this command once in a while to keep the local cache up to date. The “Lenny” repository changes relatively infrequently.
