The past is represented by traditional DP systems that are huge, stationary, data base driven, batch job oriented and serve organization (corporation/government). Such systems are still necessary and represent a significant portion of computer related industries.
However, with the advancement of technology, computers are deployed in systems that are more individual and human oriented (as opposed to organization oriented). Such computer systems are still DP systems, and their development and support still require the same teams.
On the other hand, the required technical expertise for a traditional DP system is very different from that of an i-pod. Even so, in order to be a contributing and effective member of any DP system, DMV or i-pod, an understanding of how the different teams interact is still important.
