You need to somehow let the installer bootstrap the computer. Debian
has many bootable ``images'' for various methods. The following is a
list of the supported media:
- CD/DVD. Most modern servers have a CD/DVD drive that is bootable.
You may need to change the BIOS settings to include the CD/DVD
drive in the boot sequence. This is, by far, the most
convenient method to install Debian.
- Floppy. If you have a system that does not have a bootable CD/DVD
drive, Debian Linux can also installed by loading the installer
from floppy disks. As much as this sounds painful, it really is
not. The number of floppy disks is relatively few.
- USB stick. This is an option for those computers that can boot
from a USB mass storage device. This method is as easy as
CD/DVD.
- Network. This is a great option in a networked environment
and a computer that supports network booting in the BIOS.
