I am Mónica Smith. I came to the United States from México in 1995 and arrived at the San Francisco Airport on a very rainy day! Once I was here, I realized that I needed to learn English. I wanted to continue my education, so I attended ESL classes for one year, every day after work. My father, who also wanted to learn English attended these classes with me.

Once I was learning English, I realized that I wanted to go to college and study business. For that, I needed to prove that I graduated High School. I went for a couple months to a program at Sacramento State and obtained my GED. I then enrolled in American River College in 2004. I went there for five years and obtained an A.A. in General Business Transfer.

In 2009, I had to stop going to school for about five years, but I returned in 2015. I enrolled at Sacramento State and graduated in 2017 with a B.A. in Spanish. In 2015, I was hired by the State of California and have worked there ever since. I am very curious as to how technology works, so my goal is to obtain an A.A. in Information Technology.
