Soft and Chewy Sugar Cookies

Golden, cakey sugar cookies with a light vanilla flavor. This recipe is an altered and reformatted version of a recipe from Baked by Melissa.

Preheat oven to 350° and line a baking sheet with parchment paper

Step 2

Mix the butter until creamy, then add 1/2cup granulated sugar and combine; follow by adding 1/2cup powdered sugar and combine, making sure to scrape the bowl.

Add one egg at a time and combine, then add the 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Mix everything and make sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl.

Add 1/2cup sour cream and 1tsp baking soda. Combine and make sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl.

Add the flour 1 cup at a time (3 cups total) and fully incorporate.

Create a clean and floured surface to roll the dough out onto. Knead until smooth, adding flour as needed.

    Tip:
  • The final dough should be about 1/2-inch thick or slightly thinner; The cookies will rise quite a bit.

Use cookie cutters to shape the dough, or roll it into small circles with your hands.

    Tip:
  • The cookies will puff up and become rounded, so keep to simple shapes.
Step 8

Bake for 14-15 minutes; The cookies will fluff up to be soft, chewy, and cakey, lightly sweet with a hint of vanilla.
