5.1 Forgotten password

This is bound to happen. What do you do, then?

At the bottom of the left hand side of the login screen, there is a button labeled ``Yes, help me log in''. Please see the highlighted portion of the following screenshot.

Once you click this button, it brings you to a form that asks for your username and email address. You can use either one. I sure hope that you remember either your username or your email address!

After you enter your username or email address and click ``OK'', Moodle confirms that a message has been sent to your account:

Now, check your email. You should receive a message from ``Admin User'' titled ``Moodle for some professors: change password confirmation''.

Now, read the following paragraphs very carefully.

Click the included hyperlink once (1 time). Yes, once, ONCE! This should bring you back to Moodle with the following screen:

Now, go back to check your email again. This time, you should receive a message from ``Admin User'' titled ``Moodle for some professors.: Changed password''. Yes, it looks and sounds like the previous message. The difference is ``changed password'' versus ``change password confirmation''.

At any rate, the password is in the message. Click the hyperlink in this message, and type your username and the email supplied password. Copy-and-paste should work fine.

If everything goes well, you should be prompted to change your password (from the supplied one to one that you choose). Note that you need to paste or type the email supplied password as ``Current Password'', then enter your chosen password as ``New password''. Click the button labeled ``Change password'', and everything should be fine.
