2 What you need

You need the following:

• If you are installing on a real machine, a CD with the net install ISO image. If you are installing on a virtual machine, just the ISO image file is sufficient. Go to http://www.debian.org/CD/netinst/, go to the ``Official netinst images for the "stable" release'' section, then select the ``i386'' link.
• A fairly fast (DSL) network connection. Debian will work over a dial-up PPP connection, but it is impractical.
• A real machine or a virtual machine (from VMWare, QEMU or others).
