2.2 Local text-mode access

If you have physical access to the machine, you can access the CLI fairly easily. Many installations of Linux include the GUI (Graphical User Interface), you can get to the text-mode using the key combination Ctrl-Alt-Fn, in which n can range from 1 to 5 for some installations. In other words, to access the ``virtual'' text screen 1, you use the key combination ctrl-alt-F1.

Once you get to the text screen, you need to log in before you can access the CLI.

Once you are in the CLI, use the commands telnet or ssh to log in to a remote machine. Both commands only need the hostname or IP address to start.
