4.2 LGPL

The LGPL (Lesser or Library GPL) is a more relaxed version of GPL. It essentially eliminates the ``contagious'' factor of GPL. This means that if a library is LGPLed, programs developed using the library are not GPLed or LGPLed (unless the author chooses).

The LGPL is designed to make open source programs and projects competitive in the commercial world, where development teams do not necessarily wants to make their programs open sourced.
