3 Organizations

There are several main organizations that are closely related to the open source movement.

GNU (http://www.gnu.org) is an organization that oversees GNU (GNU is Not Unix) projects. This is also the organization that authors the GPL (GNU Public License).

Free Software Foundation (http://www.fsf.org) is a political organization that promotes liberty in software and content distribution.

Open Source Initiative (http://www.opensource.org) is an organization that promotes the use of open source programs. Note that GNU projects are automatically open source projects. However, there are many more open source projects out there. One main focus of the OSI is the promotion of open source adaptation in commerical applications.
