A Little About Myself

I was born in St Petersburg, RU and have lived here in Sacramento, CA for most of my life. I am 20 years old. Academia-wise, this is my second year at ARC and I'm pursuing a General Science AS along with a web development certificate. Hobby-wise, I love everything that has to do with freshwater fishkeeping and freshwater fishing.

My Computer Experience

I spent a lot of time on the computer as a child and eventually got curious into how it was built and how it operated. I remember tearing down my modern laptop and later my old desktop and was surprised at the extent computer components have evolved (the desktop had a 250 GB hard drive the size of my hand versus the modern laptop with a 500GB SSD the size of a matchbox). I eventually built my own PC. I would also mess around with the software side of things, installing several Linux distributions and playing around with the environments. Of course I don't know how a computer operates down to the electron level but it never fails to impress me. There's so much to learn, it's impossible to fully understand every aspect of the computer especially as such speed collaberation the internet has facilitated but my objective is to find one or two aspects I love and delve into further. I'm probably going to enter a career in the science field but nowadays knowledge of the computer is indispensible as it's crossing fields of many subjects.

What I know about the Web and web publishing

I know that the WWW was first created as a way to share information between universities and then the mesh spread like wildfire around the globe with more and more users and companies going online. And I know the web is created using standards such as HTML and URL and HTTP and TCP. I've created HTML5 documents with CSS before, the code 'behind the hood' of web pages, so I'm familiar with web development but need to practice more. Using WordPress and other shortcuts definitely makes the job easier and has its place of use but it produces so many cookie-cutter sites. Knowing markup yourself, you can customise a site more to your liking and whenever a kink comes up you can fix it yourself instead of having to depend on poorly made third party code just because you don't know any better and plus it becomes 'yours' will all the feeling of accomplishment and responsibility and tenderness that comes with it.
